Sui Dynasty
The Sui Dynasty lasted from 581 to 618. Wendi declared himself the first emperor and throughout the Sui dynasty there were only 2 emperors. The emperors’ greatest achievement was the Grand Canal which supported the economy due to trading and transportation. The grand canal connected the Huang He and the Chang Jiang and provided an essential route for trade between the northern cities and the southern rice producing region of the Chang delta. Peasants had to build a 1,000 mile water way and rebuild the great wall which turned the people against the dynasty so in 618 the people revolted and a member of the imperial court assassinated the emperor.
